About this skill
Teardown is an open-source skill by Elvar. Your agent builds a machine in three.js from its real dimensions, drives every part, gauge and chart from one input such as a crank angle, and wraps it in a console with a button for each subsystem. Left alone, the page tours itself with a cursor; a click hands over control. The same code records the tour frame by frame to video, with a sound score built on the same timeline. It ships three finished machines to copy from: a V8, a Cessna 337 landing gear and a Strandbeest.
You say
Build me a simulator of a mechanical watch escapement I can take apart. Here is a cutaway from a repair manual. Then record a 20-second video of its tour.
How it works
- Give your agent the machine and one reference: a manual cutaway, a photo or a clip of the real thing.
- It writes the math first, every pose and readout from one input in real units, then builds the parts in three.js and a console around them.
- It bundles one offline HTML page that tours itself until someone clicks, and records the same tour frame by frame to a 60 fps MP4.
- It scores the film in Python on the same timeline, then reads sheets of stills and fixes what they show before it calls the machine done.
Getting a good result
- Pick a machine with one moving input and published numbers. The author's generic results came from machines asked for with nothing to match.
- Start by copying the closest of the three examples, since each already solves cutaways, isolation and live charts.
- Test the live page on a laptop's built-in graphics before you share it, and keep the page under 1 MB so X shows its link card.
What you get
- The teardown skill at a pinned commit, with its MIT license
- Three complete machines: V8, Cessna 337 main gear and Strandbeest
- A bundler for one offline HTML page and a frame-by-frame capture to MP4
- A sound engine in plain Python that scores the film on its timeline
- Review scripts that tile stills and check loudness against beats
Good fit
- Explaining how an engine, gearbox, pump or linkage works
- Interactive lessons and visual explainers people can click
- Machines with one moving input and real published numbers
Not for
- Machines invented from one sentence, with no reference to match
- Organic characters or anything without a mechanism
- Pages over 1 MB that must still show a link card on X
How to install it
- Download the ZIP and unzip it.
- Inside the ZIP's top folder, move the teardown folder that holds SKILL.md into your agent's skills folder, such as ~/.claude/skills/, and keep LICENSE and ATTRIBUTION.md with it. Then run npm ci && npx playwright install chromium inside it once.
- Start a new session and ask for what you want to make.
Needs: An agent that reads skills and can look at images, Node.js 20 or newer, Chromium from Playwright, or your own Chrome, FFmpeg, for the video, Python 3, for the sound.

FAQ
Is it really free?
Yes. Create a free AdAnt account to download the ZIP. There is no card and no trial timer, and the original is public on GitHub, linked on this page.
Does it need an API key or the internet?
No key. Setup downloads three.js, esbuild, Playwright and two fonts from npm, runs esbuild's install script (and fsevents' on a Mac), and Playwright downloads Chromium from its own CDN. After that the pages run offline, and its scripts start only Chromium (to record frames), FFmpeg, ffprobe and Python on your machine.
Has AdAnt read all of it?
Most of it. We read SKILL.md, every Node and Python script, the sound engine, the shared kit and the whole V8 line by line. The Cessna and Strandbeest drawing code we scanned for network calls, storage and HTML built from outside input, and found none. It is someone else's code, so read it before you trust it.
Is anything left out of the ZIP?
Only the README and its docs folder: an introduction and three GIFs of a bee, a scorpion and an octopus, 14 MB in all. The skill does not use them, and SKILL.md has the same setup. Every other file is unchanged.
Is a page it builds safe to put on my site?
Host a -live page: those read no link parameters. Film pages, the three -film examples and any film built on runSim as SKILL.md shows, read a ?config= link parameter and write its caption fields into the page as HTML, so a crafted link would run someone else's script on your site. Before you host a film page, delete the ?config= branch of loadConfig in sims/kit/runtime.js.
Anything else to know in this version?
sample() in sfx/synth.py calls FFmpeg at the author's Windows path, and setting FFMPEG does not reach it, so recorded samples fail elsewhere until you edit that line; the three included scores do not use samples. And run sheet.mjs and the build only with your own options: sheet.mjs deletes its --name folder without checking the path, and the build copies whatever a build.json lists into dist/.
